Lumibook Foldable Table Lamp

The Lumibook Table Lamp is built like a book: closed it sits flat as a slim wooden-covered volume, and opened it fans out through a full 360 degrees so the paper pages glow from within. How far you open it decides the shape, from a narrow half-moon on a shelf to a complete cylinder on a table. It comes in brown and natural wood covers, and in three sizes so it can be a small desk piece or a larger centrepiece.

The covers are wood and the pages are a special tear-resistant paper, which is what gives the light its even, lantern-like quality with no visible bulb. Three modes let you switch between warm, cool and natural tones to match the time of day. Power comes from a built-in rechargeable battery that runs up to eight hours per charge, and a USB cable is included for topping it up. With no cord in use it can move from room to room freely.

It suits a bedside, a shelf, a study desk, a dinner table or a weekend away, anywhere a soft pool of ambient light is more welcome than an overhead.
